Today i wanted to make a shortcut of an icon for a program onto the desktop and i found out that when i went to send to i couldn't see desktop create shortcut if anyone know's how to fix this Joined Aug 1, Messages 51, Hey Elvandil Thanks for the reply You're welcome. Thanks for the followup. Use your mouse to highlight the text below, then right click over top of the highlighted text and select "Copy".

This will copy the text into your clipboard: Windows Registry Editor Version 5. This should paste what you just copied in the previous step into Notepad. If it does not, then repeat the previous step. Name the file "sendtofix. It's important that the filename ends in. REG or the file won't work in the next step.

Go to your desktop and look for the "sendtofix. Use your mouse to highlight the file left click , then press Enter on the keyboard. This will execute the file; when prompted, agree to import the registry entry. At this point you will need to reboot the computer.

Bookmark this page, save any open documents you may have, then restart the computer. A black command prompt window will open. The command you copied in the previous step should have output to the command line. If it does not, repeat the previous step and try again. Press Enter on the keyboard to execute the command you paste in the previous step. Proceed to the next step. Type in: "shell:sendto" no quotes and press Enter on the keyboard. A new window should appear, and you will either see some shortcuts such as Desktop, Mail Recipient, Documents , or it will be blank.

If it is blank, then you will need to add some shortcuts, described in the proceeding steps. Inside the list of folders here you should see a shortcut to Desktop. Then click ok and watch a new incarnation of your desktop come to life in front of your eyes. In a lot of cases you can elaborate this technique a bit and use it to avoid a reboot when you have made modifications in the registry. Generally you have to reboot your computer for registry changes to take effect.

Now you can avoid reboots by killing and respawning the explorer. After you have made modifications in your registry, make sure to save and close all documents that you are working on. Then bring up the Task Manager with ctrl-alt-del. Click on the "Processes" tab and look for the explorer. Single-click this process and click on Task Manager's "End Process" button.
