He seeks to execute them as a sign of his virility and power. You must save these prisoners before such an atrocity can come to pass.
As proof of deed, bring me the unused axe of the executioner. It must not have a drop of blood on its blade! The key can be obtained at honored reputation with Honor Hold or Thrallmar.
After defeating Grand Warlock Nethekurse and upon entering the gauntlet afterwards, your group has 80 minutes to reach Warchief Kargath Bladefist. Similar to the quest [60D] Dead Man's Plea - the minute baron run - a timer-debuff appears and Kargath Bladefist will occasionally yell something about executing the prisioners.
Although you lose the debuff upon death you still can complete the quest. The quest description is misleading, as a prisoner or two may be killed and you can still get the quest item - so don't be quick to give up if you miss the deadline, or even a few kills. This is [ The Tempest Key ] quest chain. Prerequisite: The Cipher of Damnation quest chain.
Each person should be assigned to a specific cube. Phase 1 Phase 1 begins when a hostile action is taken against any of the Hellfire Channelers. This causes all of the channelers to break from their cubes and run towards the person who took the initial action. Each channeler will need to be tanked and spread out to avoid stacking the Shadow Volley. It is possible for one tank to tank the first two Channelers, although the raid will be taking twice as much shadow damage from the volley as needed.
The channelers should be taken down in a predetermined order in respect to which tank is tanking it. Due to the stacking buff the channelers receive when one dies, the two weakest tanks should take the first two. The Main Tank should tank the third so that that tank is free of mobs when Magtheridon becomes active.
The third best geared tank should tank the fourth, and the second best geared tank should tank the fifth. It is important for the DPS classes capable of spell interupts to interupt the Dark Mending spell, since it is imperative that the Channelers die in a timely fashion.
Warlocks and Mages will need to help control the abyssals. There will be no more than 10 up at any time, and they despawn after 60 seconds.
As more channelers die, less abyssals will be active. Abyssals can be affected by banish, fear, nova, etc. Phase 2 Phase 2 begins seconds after the first channeler has been engaged. At this time, Magtheridon becomes active and should be picked up b the Main Tank. All DPS should focus on killing the remaining channelers before switching focus to Magtheridon.
It is important to keep the Main Tank at high health before the Quake so that he doesn't get killed from a large hit immediately after the Quake is finished. The first interrupt group should already be in position, and as soon as Magtheridon begins to cast, the first group should all click their Cubes. The duration of the banish is largely dependent on the raid make up for example, a high number of healers means you can have a longer banish to compensate for the lack of dps.
Once this occurs, he will "Shatter Walls" that deals physical damage to all players. It is best to wait until immediately after a Blast Nova to begin Phase 3.
All Phase 2 abilities remain and a new ability, Cave In, will occur periodically. The Cave In deals 90,, damage to anyone standing in the Cave In. Each Cave In is preceded by a Cave In animation approx. Comment by Thottbot my guild went in there last night for the first time, the coordination of clicking the cubes takes some doing. Comment by Thottbot Hes just like kael, compaired with lurker and VR hes harder with a worse loot table than the other two.
Comment by Thottbot i love the way in warcraft 3 he was purple, and now he is a light bluish color. Same goes for azgalor. Comment by Thottbot While Mag's seen a couple of nerfs since the original comments in this thread, it's still a challenging encounter.
The trash leading up to him has become easier as people have picked up better gear, but on the fight itself, there are many roles to assign and bringing him down takes some preparation.
Comment by Thottbot Just to make 2 corrections on the storyline here: 1 One post above mine mentioned something about Thrall or Grom charging their weapon and throw at this guy, um So, if Illidan was to take on Mag 1 on 1 Mag would kick his arse like a dog. Comment by Thottbot Loot wise his loot table is pretty poor in terms of variety and item level in comparison to his difficulty.
Comment by Thottbot If you had 2 dps and a healer, then you couldn't even have soloed him in the first place Comment by Thottbot this guy sorta looks like the pit master at the dark portal lol.
Comment by Thottbot After patch 2. So, you'd do him if you really, really, really wanted to complete your Tier 4 set. Of course, by that time, you and your guild buddies will probably be well-enough geared that you can start doing SSC and the TK eye, to accumulate Tier 5 gear Comment by Thottbot This Fight is very easy if your cube clickers know what they are doing i'm a cube clicker for my guild.
Comment by Thottbot The plate belt that drops off him isnt as good as the red belt of battle so warrior dps chould just waste the gold on that. Comment by Thottbot here it is kael was forced to fight a undead army by hiself so he accepted lady vashjs ade. Comment by Allakhazam you can, but won't give u any xp :. Comment by Allakhazam where is this fun boss?
Comment by Allakhazam He is at the very bottom of citadel on the side where the 3 towres for PvP are. Comment by Allakhazam Magtheridon is a gear check more than anything, and as with many other end game raid encounters, the more warlocks you bring the easier it gets.
So lets get on with the fight then. Magtheridon stands in the middle of a circular room, banished. Around him are five channelers which will not aggro unless you attack them first. Attacking them starts the encounter. The channelers each have k hp in total, summons infernals that needs to be cc'd, casts a shadow bolt volley that hits everything around them, and they also occasionally heal themselves.
Because there are five channelers, you also will need to bring five tanks, one for each channeler. Magtheridon himself breaks loose two minutes after starting the encounter, and at that point your main tank must be ready to take him on. If you have not killed atleast three of the channelers already, it will get quite hectic for a while. Healers will have to deal with healing the Main tank aswell as healing the raid because of the remaining channelers.
The blast nova is preceeded by a 1 second cast time, and is a channeling spell that hits entire raid for about damage per tick. Needless to say, if you take too many hits you wont last long. You should have two groups of five people each assigned to channeling the cubes. Try time the channeling so that everyone clicks the cube the instant he starts casting the spell the one second cast timer , and then hold the cube for as long as possible in order to give dps some extra sauce.
Keep HP in mind and step away from the cube if you get too low. This is why you need another five people to click it next time. All raid members will take about damage, so use healthstones and healthpots. Just one death the priest , the entire run. Only one of us had been in a heroic SH before. Trickiest bit for us were the pulls in the hallway between the centurions, other than that it was all pretty trivial; including the last boss. My advice to anyone trying this is to take as much CC and as little melee as possible.
The hardest fight was Kargath due to squishiness, but we managed on the third attempt. All other boss fights went smooth, trash is the real killer in this instance.
Comment by sanafey We finished it with i dunno how much minutes left. We wiped several times before first boss on the big elite packs. Luckily we had sheep, fear, frost nova etc.
And our healer didnt die in one hit. We skipped the groups with centurions, pulling only the centered mobs and dogpatrols way back in the first room to chain fear them. We wiped 1x during timer on Kargath cause the dps 3xcloth just got nuked by adds and whirlwind. Second try i positioned boss in left corner while paladin was in leftuppercorner, and the rest on other side. Well spread out and far away so the whirlwind ran out by the time it arrived at them.
The adds were sheeped, feared etc. All 3 prisoners were still alive :D Hardest packs 3 packs plus one big one r before first boss but you can take your time on them. And the miniboss he cleaves and the ones with the centurion packs on de the sides 2 packs. What relevance does it hold? Took us at least 90 minutes to clear the whole thing. I can confirm that you can get the quest item after 2 npc's have been executed.
After he killed one we got a 10 minute debuff. After he killed the second one we got a 15 minute debuff. Tips for clearing are watch out for assassin after the first boss while clearing through the hallway full of archers and spawns.
The 2nd boss with 2 archers is simple to kill and his adds are pretty weak if you want to kill them first. Don't rush yourselves into a wipe, because theres a enough time for a slow steady clear. With 2 healers it was no problem keeping the tank up.
Our gear was mostly blues with a few karazhan epics but nothing major. Took the first section at a reasonable pace, since the timer only starts after the first boss.
Nethercurse was definately the hardest part of the run for us but we only wiped once. Deathcoil is a pain since it seemed to only hit our tank, but running towards wherever the tank is feared to made it not too much of an issue.
Void zones really hurt on heroic so everyone needs to be alert. Continued on after him with still a steady pace, drinking between each pull etc. Reached 2nd boss with plenty of time using this aoe tactic and had no trouble killing him. Just be sure that the person who gets aggro after a switch does not do anything, and keep them spam healed.
Boss seemed to hit for 4k on cloth so not too hard keeping even the mage alive. For the last boss we all stood on the steps, apart from the tank who stood in the middle of Kargaths room, had the warlock on Kargath while the druid and mage took care of the adds Druid in some balance gear.
Killed him with 16 minutes left on timer, all 3 prisoners still alive. Dont rush things and you should have no problem. Comment by When I ran this, we wiped so many times that the timer ran out before the second boss - but the timer popped up again by the time we had reached kargath.
We didn't kill him in time because assassins kept aggroing don't ask but I was wondering if the quest could have been completed? Perhaps if someone else has the misfortune to go through an equally agonizing run they can see if this works. Comment by Affekted ive tried this 2 times we always get stuck after first boss and in hallway on teh way to porung.
Easy as hell. Comment by If your group fully wipes, is there a way of restarting the timer? Or are you fecked until the reset? Comment by Did this a few weeks ago with what I think was a nearly ideal group: 1 well-geared pally tank, 2 healers, 1 DPS warrior, and 1 rogue.
The pally tank was able to do huge group pulls with two healers on him. Since he never ran out of mana, his threat generation was ridiculous, allowing the DPS warrior to AoE his heart out same with the rogue. This was the pally's first time tanking and my first time healing SH on heroic. We were able to kill everything, even with 1 wipe, with around 10 minutes to spare before the first prisoner's death. From that experience, I'd say that any decently good Tankadin with two healers and some form of AoE should be able to complete this fairly easily.
Comment by May be a dumb question but no one else said If you die do you fail the quest?? Comment by mattattack It's definitely worth mentioning, that as of patch 2.
